Growing up I lived close to Memphis, some of my best childhood memories were made there. I am old enough to remember Beale Street before it was commercialized, before B.B. King’s opened, which was the beginning of Beale Street as we know it today. While the image of Beale Street is colorful and fun, my favorite picture is the one of the Memphis Business Journal building, not because of anything you can see in the picture but because of where it was taken. As a little girl, my dad would take me to stay at The Peabody where we would go out on the rooftop to see the ducks and from there you can see the Mississippi River, the Arkansas Delta and downtown Memphis. I would play for hours up there, my poor dad and step-mom, they must have been bored beyond belief!
